I've been going through my mother's things the past few days. It's hard, but not as hard as it was the last time I tried to do it.
This time I found an envelope full of photos, and the above tintype?
It is an image of my great grandparents, James Wood & Frances K. Smith Black Nichols. I'm guessing the photos were taken 1880-1890 as James died in 1903. James was born in 1837 and Frances in 1840. I think they look to be in their 50's or so.
I do wish I could see the bottom half of James' face- that mustache is crazy huge!
It's a wonderful find and I am so thankful my mom decided to keep this and quite a few other photographs of her ancestors. I have seen James' photo before in a book and also online, but I have never seen the photograph of my great grandmother.
