1940ish
Rural Southwest Arkansas
My grandmother & grandfather on my dad's side-
Lela & Clarence.
I assume the gun and tote bag means
he had been squirrel hunting.
The truck is a good old Chevrolet,
I think called a stake truck, but I could be wrong.
I know they had that truck for a long time because
I have photos of all three kids standing beside it
and they were in their teens.
My grandmother is wearing a dress, which was her norm
until after my grandfather died, I believe.
She made all of her own clothes, and her daughter's also.
This shirtwaist dress was pretty popular back then
and on up to the 60's or later.
She added the rolled up stockings later on and
I remember those well.
They were thicker than regular nylons.
Lela was the daughter of Earnest Luther & Harriet Cox
Barrett and Clarence was the son of James & Linnie Clark Sutton
I miss them both.

It was a pleasant glance backwards in time.
love that old Chevy truck and I was alive when she was wearing this dress and mother had those shirt waist dresses and so did I. I had a seersucker shirtwaist with a red belt and red shoes that hurt my feet to wear to my first job in 1962 at a finance company. women did not wear pants to work until about 1975 when Sears let us wear pants suits only, and they had to match, pants and top the same color.. ugly pants suits. ha ha..great photo
What a treasured photo. A lot of history in this photo. I love to see the fashion back then. And your grandfather can go squirrel hunting around my neck of the woods any time. ; ) I do not like the squirrels much, and they scurry on my lawn every day digging holes in the grass storing their nuts for winter.

I like her dress. I still wear dresses all the time.
Vintage photos are always wonderful and thanks for sharing these of your grandparents in the 1940s. I wondered about the pose with the rifle.
This is a great photo with him looking at her.
Thank your for sharing this great photograph and your memories.
All the best Jan
