Heat Wave

Out and about, making sure I can drive with a broken leg, so I can take my mom to her appointments.  We spotted this heron in the hottest of hot places...at the spillway, surrounded by concrete fences, and sitting on a man made concrete bank.  Mark and I both were wondering was he hot, or did he have a mouth full of fish?  Doesn't he look exhausted?

I hope you all are staying cool.  This is my second least favorite time of year...with first place always going to storm season in the spring and early summer.  So, I am indeed counting the days until fall.

  2. It's raining here today which really helps with the heat - and gentle rain, not stormy like what blew threw on the 14th and left us without power until the following Monday!

    I bet he's fishing. :)

  3. Me TOO.... I'm counting the days 'til Fall. I have never enjoyed summer much --and this year, since it's been SO SO SO SO hot and dry here, I like it even less.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  4. Herons are fascinating to watch!
I see Herons at Pickwick Dam (TN), and there seems to always be a strong breeze blowing. Hopefully that helps the birds from getting too hot.
    Hope your leg mends quickly

  8. It does look mighty hot. Which brings to mind that I have never seen a heron do more than wade. This one could seemingly do with a good splash.

  11. What a great picture! He does look tired to me too. It's been hot here and yesterday it was even a bit humid which is unusual here. Then we had some humdingers of thunderstorms hit about bedtime. I love summertime but this heat is getting old already.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

That bird did look a bit wore out. At least he can cool off.

  17. I am also not a fan of the sweaty season. And not looking forward to its return.
I hope your leg isn't giving you too much grief. I am amazed that you can drive with it in a cast. Stay safe.

  20. It is so neat to see how the wings on the herons are so low on the body. I do hope he is not suffering...but I wonder if birds ever really do suffer from heat spells. Wish we could get into their minds to find the answer. genie

  21. Sorry to hear about your broken leg. I hope it is healing okay! Hard to drive with a cast...but it is possible. They will look at you funny if you have an accident. The Heron looks like he needs a swim. The animals suffer in this heat too...stay cool:)

  28. It is hot. All the birds have their mouths open here too. I am glad you can get out and about. I am looking forward to fall too. Except I think it will be Halloween before we see a break.

  32. He does look rather weary and hot! I'm with you, though summer is my least favorite time of the year. Southern heat and humidity is almost unbearable! Hope your leg is healing well!
