The Heat is On

Not much to see through my lens the past few days.  I've not been feeling well, and spent most of the weekend on the couch.  I don't know if any of you have experience with GERD, but I've had it since the 80s and have been trying for the past few months to get off of the PPIs that I take for it.   This causes a rebound effect and painful is not even a good word for what it does to my stomach.  I guess I can't complain- I missed the hottest days of the heat wave.

Here's a for real bird (blue jay) for Anni, from my walk in the park a couple of weeks ago.
I hope everyone is having a good week, and I am sorry I haven't been around to visit your blogs this last week, but I will do that now that I am feeling better.  :)

Thank y'all both for hosting these wonderful memes.

  1. So sorry you have to fight that nasty Gerd. Doc put me on Omeprisal (no idea how it's spelled) and that worked like a charm for me. The rest of that stuff didn't do squat.

Cute banner! Nice shot of Mr. Bluejay. I haven't seen mine for a while - maybe they went somewhere else to get away from this heat.

    Take care now.

  3. Go slow Terri, and maybe is there a way to gradually reduce the PPIs? Hope you are feeling heaps better by now. Lovely bird, those colours, I see them in a quilt!!!

  8. Oh dear, I feel for you and GERD. I suffer from it too and for a time was on medicines. I went off of them because I didn't seem to notice any benefit. I recently started suffering again and then I realized that GERD hadn't bothered me for some time. I'm not sure what I've been doing differently. Perhaps it was giving up sodas but I haven't restarted and it's baaack! I hope you feel much better soon. The photo of the blue is beautiful. xx

  9. Jays often greet me when hiking. They stay together often as a family so it is nice to see 3-4 of these colorful birds.I hope your recovery is quick and you get back to your routines.

  15. Ouch, that rebound effect is the pits. I had that with migraine meds years ago. Recently I had some problems with my stomach with all the heart meds I was taking. Mixed Berry Aloe Vera Juice from Walmart has really helped. I keep it in the refrigerator and take a couple of swallows a few times a day. Doesn't taste bad and it has really helped my stomach. Those PPIs scare me. Hope you can get the GERD under control without them. Sure hope you are past the rebound and withdrawal period. Take care and stay cool. Sending hugs.

  19. Mrs. Chatterbox had surgery to eliminate gerd. I think the procedure was called a Nissan, although I'm not sure of the spelling. It worked great for her.

  20. Oh, I hope you're better soon. I take Omeprazole for GERD which got suddenly worse last year after I received my pacemaker. It worked like a charm. I have no idea what PPI's are. I suppose I should check that out.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  22. Sorry to hear you are having trouble with this. Have you ever tried Manuka Honey for this? Supposed to be helpful.

  23. Beautiful shots!

Those PPIs will deplete your body of VITAL nutrients, plus, we need stomach acid, we just need it to be IN our stomach. The Lower Esophageal Sphincter (LES) separates the esophagus and the stomach. Proper stomach acid levels signal the LES to close tightly, so that food digestion can take place and not harm the esophageal lining. However, low stomach acid levels don’t give off the closing signal, and cause the sphincter to loosen. Once loose, acidic stomach fluid comes back up into the lower part of the esophagus causing a burning sensation. This is why a large meal will give you heartburn. There’s not enough acid in your stomach to saturate the heavy meal, so the LES doesn’t close. Furthermore, there is also a pyloric sphincter that separates the stomach from the small intestine. The body will not open this second sphincter if the contents of the stomach are not properly acidified. Instead of moving through the pyloric sphincter, food sits in the stomach and ferments, producing gas and pressure. (also making the LES leak open)

  24. I'm sorry you don't feel well - that's no fun. I had acid reflux (along with a boatload of other health issues) for a long time. Strangely enough, once I changed to a whole foods diet it completely disappeared (which was awesome :o)

  30. It is the pits to be sick but right now it is so hot you want to be inside any way. I have two jays hanging around that I think will be feeding baby birds.
