Random 5 Friday

6/2013
Cossatot River

It was a balmy 45 degrees today after a morning low of 15.  Come on spring, you can do it!

It's been a week of break-downs at my house..first the a/c and then the hot water heater...waiting for the third thing...I know it's there..what's it gonna be?  My money is on the car..it's been making a funny roaring noise lately.

Took my oldest grand shopping, and was pleasantly surprised to see clothing I used to wear in the sixties and seventies.. I guess it's true...if you wait long enough, everything comes back in style.

My father has decided to run for mayor.
Go Dad!

I had the strangest craving for chocolate vanilla pop tarts yesterday morning.  I don't think they even make that flavor anymore. but it was my childhood favorite.

  1. The polar vortex is planning to drop another cold one on us this weekend so I'm very much with you on the 'c'mon spring!'. Fingers crossed for the car and for your Dad's mayoral run.

You captured the phebe so beautifully, it must be a harbinger of spring!

  8. What a sweet bird capture Terri! And how interesting about your dad -- I wish him all the best! We used to eat strawberry pop-ups (a cheap version of pop tarts) and I think they still make them, but I haven't had any in a long, long time.

  9. Best of luck to your Dad!! I used to love chocolate-vanilla pop tarts, too. Don't think I've touched a pop tart in many years, but boy, it sure does sound good! It's funny how things come in 3s. I hope whatever it is, that you get off easy. We actually hit the 40s last weekend - up here that is down right balmy - everyone was out sitting on their porches and out walking. Have a great weekend!

  10. I will take your balmy 45* over a cold windy day. It's 17* and the next 3 days they are talking highs in the single digits, if we are lucky. The best part is the wind is blowing.

We have been lucky lately, through all this cold we have not had any major breakdowns. Keeping our fingers crossed.

Have a great weekend and enjoy your pop tarts.

  17. Gorgeous photo!!!!!!!

-chuckle- Ahhh yes, the old idea of looking for things to come-in-3's. Seems there must be something to it, somehow. Old Wive's Tales are based on things happening, a lot, over time. Even if we can't explain them, seems there must be something to them.

    Gentle hugs,
    Tessa~

  22. Hey, great for you dad...go dad! I had a mother-in-law who kept absolutely everything since the 40s. When she passed, my daughters inherited her whole wardrobe plus accessories and they love most of it and also wear it. Isn't that fun? Well, I guess there's only so much that can be done with fabric and thread and so has to be reinvented. :) Hope you have a lovely weekend. :)

  23. I'm so totally with you --- COME ON SPRING TIME WEATHER!!

  33. how funny, i remember my grandma always telling me how she wished she had saved her old clothes because it all came back into style while i was young! and your dad get's my vote, how exciting and best of luck to him! i don't think i've ever tried choc/vanilla poptarts...my favorite were always the fruit ones, like strawberry, cherry, blueberry, with icing of course! toasted with a glass of milk...now i buy my kids the yucky ones they like, like brown sugar, hot fudge sunday, those types, yuck, but on the good side, i won't eat them!

  50. That bird and the pastel bokeh definitely signal spring! I had 3 appliances go last year (they were about 18 years old). I'm amazed at how much more efficient the new washer is - guess it was time to get a new one! (Ouch to the pocketbook though...)

  51. I`m crossing my fingers so the third thing doesn`t break. Nice bird, and go dad! :D
