And We're Off......

It's February, and I refuse to let Mother Nature & a bad knee ruin this month!

My pond thought about freezing...but then the geese & ducks protested and the
ice disappeared...or maybe it was the crazy 70 degree day we had last week!)

The starlings are enjoying their last two weeks or so of trespassing at the martin condo. The sparrows are about to be booted out of the gourd houses, too.  Our purple martins should be here by the end of the month.  I can't wait- they are such beautiful birds and I love to hear them sing.

I tried to get a jump on Valentine's Day for the kiddos, but my hiding place did not work.
Five out of six grandchildren have already spied out & questioned me about what's in the red bags.  The parents looked at me like- are you kidding?  You put them in plain sight!
Why yes, I did.  Silly Nana.

ps- you must hop over to eden hill'sa rural journal  & two bears farm- all are sponsoring a super homemade soap giveaway...hurry and enter!

  1. Lovely shots and how lucky you are to have the martins. We put up a lovely martin house, however, the sparrows always take over before we have any luck with the martins. Have a wonderful day, and not to worry, at least one of your grandchildren will still have a valentines surprise!

  6. I love the shot of the pond and the ice on top of part of it--great reflections! At least your grandchildren just saw the bags and not what's inside. :-)

  7. So glad you are getting out....This is a great mosaic showing all that's going on around your place....Aren't grandchildren so nosy....they think it's a game with me so I have to work overtime to outsmart them....Always fun though....

  8. I really like the photo of the pond. It's kind of hard to outsmart those little ones, isn't it. At least they didn't see inside the bags. I hope your knee feels better soon.

  12. An interesting photo collage. A bit of a rush on spring, or else spring comes much earlier at your place than at ours.

One thing about living out west, I never see a Starling. Hope you are infested with Purple Martins this spring. (Perhaps infested isn't the right world.)

Sorry to hear of the ill-mannered knee which insists on bothering you. I hope it is soon well and agreeable.

    Blessings and Bear hugs!

  14. Your hiding place looks similar to one I might use - oh well - this might heighten their anticipation. I love your wintery shots - we're probably a couple months away from any real thaw. Have a great day!

  15. Snow once again dumped here yesterday. Our still water sources are frozen but the moving water is not.

I am ready for a thaw but we have another front coming in.
