Silent Observations #5

Cossatot turtle ~ owning his rock

This week's randoms ~

My youngest grand turns two next week- wow, time flies.

A camping trip is in my near future.  I am a happy camper.

My niece is getting settled in at college.  I am so proud of her!

Two weeks ago a large knot showed up on my index finger- first joint.  I looked it up online (because google is cheaper & quicker than a doctor) and I guess I am the proud owner of a heberden's node.  Apparently I now have osteoarthritis.

I'm addicted to microwave popcorn.  I've noticed the bags are less full of unpopped corn, and if I use the popcorn setting on the microwave, it will burn.  This reminds me of when sugar went from five pounds to four pounds.  Do they really think we consumers won't notice these things?

Have a great weekend ya'll!!

  2. Congrats to your niece. I love microwave popcorn - I do it myself using regular popcorn in a brown paper lunch bag and a little bit of oil - it comes out great! I love the shot of the turtle - and have a great time camping!

  5. The turtle pic is wonderful! Sorry about the arthritis. My hands are started to have some aches, but no knots yet. It runs pretty heavily in my family.

  7. Everything seems to get smaller, but costs more. Nope, we are not stupid, but what can you do?

  8. does your hand issue keep you from things that you love? i sure hope not. if it does maybe you need a trip to the doctor for some assistance? if not ... count it as just some added character. ( :

being a Happy Camper is so important.

i love popcorn. but i have suddenly noticed more of those doohickeys sticking in my teeth or under my gums. not sure why? so frustrating indeed. you do enjoy!

  9. So sorry about the knotty finger -- it's difficult getting old, isn't it?

Popcorn -- I love it but don't eat it.

I wish I had these large turtles where we are! So photogenic. :)

  10. Love the photo. Love turtles. Happy Birthday to your youngest grand -- they grow up so fast. Enjoy the camping trip and congratulations to your niece. I love popcorn, but don't eat it often -- bad on my teeth! Yes, I think the manufacturers do think consumers are dumb. I just think they are gluttons for $$$$. Welcome to the world of arthritis. It happens to all of us. Keep working those fingers!

  11. Wow - impressive turtle! I noticed what you noticed: Same or higher price on a smaller carton of ice-cream. And I too am addicted to microwave popcorn. My husband won't touch the stuff. LOL

  12. Remember when Tampax tampon brand started putting less in each box. Women revolted and quit buying them altogether and so Tampax nixed the idea and did it the way they had done it before. I was one of the gals that stopped purchasing them.. I know... this subject is probably not going well with your popcorn this morning, but it's the same thing... less kernels in the package. Let's all revolt!!!

  13. The turtle photo is wonderful.

You probably should go to a doctor about that bump on your finger. If it's really arthritis, it may be rheumatoid arthritis, rather than osteoarthritis. The doctor might be able to help slow the progress. As for popcorn...I've never been able to successfully pop microwave popcorn. It's always either scorched or not fully popped. Sometimes both. So I do it the old fashioned way...in a popcorn popper.

  17. I think ' they' do think we won't notice :-). My husband has those and they've reached a size and haven't gotten bigger in years, he still plays a mean guitar, without medication. This is a gorgeous reflection and a mighty large turtle, gorgeous too of course!

  21. Either that's a small rock, or a big turtle!

    Sorry about the finger.

I swear my grandkids are growing up faster than my own kids did... and that was way too fast!

  22. This turtle is giving you a double moon. :)

  23. I'm fond of turtles, don't ask why, I have no idea.
Sorry about the osteo - washing dishes in warm water eases the stiffness in the morning, helps the hands, but does nothing for the toes. (Too difficult to get them into the sink)
I remember when Charmin was a double roll to start with and they were simply rolls of Charmin.

  24. Beautiful photo! I love turtles.

Sorry about the knot on your finger. I've noticed my fingers getting stiffer, but I try to keep working them. This age thing takes some getting used to! :-)

I hope you enjoy your camping trip! Can you believe I've never been camping?

  25. Aw, beautiful turtle! I love them. :)

And yes, i think that's exactly what many companies think.. that we don't notice. Of course they're wrong.

  26. Back in January one of the joints on my ring finger on my left hand decided to get arthritis and grew 1 1/2 ring sizes larger and it hurts. But, I can't complain... I have 9 other fingers that are just fine.

  27. I have a turtle who is single; seems the fire took them out, and this little one is left in the little pond spring we have...but then if i bring in another turtle, I might be starting up a nunnery, monastery, or a gay community... and if they are opposite sex, whose to say they would even get along? So rather thenmaking me be a stockholm syndrome kidnapper person for turtles, i have decided to let nature take over...

btw, this leds up to - I love your turtle photography!

and now you can look at your finger and say "well done! You have been used effectively, and not preserved!" (btw I am not allowed to look up diseases anymore on the internet - i get paranoid, he gets paranoid, and then we think we're gonna die...always on a weekend too, where you are thinking youre sick, but are you sick enough to warrant the extra charges?)

  28. The turtle photo is totally awesome....and I have a couple of those knotty fingers too...I am just glad we do not get them on the tip of the nose. :)

  29. Bummer about your giving Arthritis a home. He is a nasty bugger.
Loved the turtle shot. He picked a matching rock for great camo.
Have a great camping trip and take pictures.

  31. Great shot of the turtle...I am with you on the popcorn..I love it and I have the thing on my finger as well.....I definitely don't like some of the side effects of getting older.....Congratulations to your niece and happy birthday to your grandchild....I hope you have a wonderful weekend....

  32. Yes, time flies. They have reduced the amount on tons of things. One thing I know for sure is evaporated milk. The reason I know is I listed the number of ounces on my pie recipe back in the 70's. They no longer have a can with that many ounces. Otherwise, I don't know that I would have noticed. They'd have snuck one over on me!

  33. What a beautiful capture!! I do love that turtle!!! Hope you have a great weekend!

  37. Great reflection shot!
My youngest Grand will be three in November. I can handle that but it's my oldest one starting Kindergarten that's got me down. :)

  38. Love your photo and randoms, although I'm sorry about the osteoarthritis. I'm addicted to popcorn of all kinds, and I agree about the packaging thing. Grrr.

  39. All groceries are going UP UP UP... Can't believe that nobody seems to be complaining in the media... We love Kroger's OJ --but now they have changed to a smaller bottle. Of course, the price is the same as the larger bottle was... GADS....

We eat microwave popcorn --but only buy one brand, Orville Redenbacher... Cooks good in our microwave.

Love your photo... The reflections are amazing!!!!! Sweet little turtle.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  42. I love your turtle shot, Terri! I love the microwave popcorn too. I used to love camping but now it seems my body aches too much from sleeping on the ground even with air mattress. Sorry, about the arthritis! Wishing you a happy weekend!

  43. Hope you have a wonderful camping trip. Are you planning to take the turtle with you so it an experiences other places? I'm sure he would think that rocks. But maybe not.

  47. Love your caption for this photo! Perhaps he is waiting for the sun to reach him so he might bask in the heat of it on his very own rock?

  49. Wonderful Photo and the refection! wow..I once had a small Terrapin purchased a the local pet store.
He grew and he grew until I could no longer keep him. I took him along to the Zoo , where they had a very large pond , and off he went as happy as can be . :)

  55. Love the reflections in the water, and that is a big turtle.

  56. I didn't realise turtles were so dark.
That reminds me we have popcorn to make with the children too - we usually do it in the microwave - so much easier isn't it.

  57. Cool photo and loved the random things. It is a great way for bloggers to get to know you better. And - stay off the internet medical sites. It's just a bump.

  58. Yes we consumers do notice the "cut back". John likes the small packages of peanutbutter crackers for snacks. He noticed recently they have cut back on two crackers in the package. Made him so mad he bought cheese crackers instead of the ones he really prefers.

  61. This is a marvelous photo. The water and the reflections could easily be a painting.

  62. Hi Terri - that's a great turtle photo - I like the lighting and the ripples. Must tell you to stop the microwave popcorn (you know me!) It's not good for you - here's why: http://www.care2.com/greenliving/dangers-of-microwave-popcorn.html. (Sorry, but I want you to stay healthy a good long while!)

  63. What a great photo!

My teeth are no longer happy with popcorn, much as I love it. Even the occasional unpopped kernel threatens the tentative stability of my dental work!

    ReplyDelete
  64. I'm addicted to microwave popcorn too, Hmmm. I didn't realize sugar in the States was now sold in 4-lb bags. I thought just Canadians were being ripped off as ours is sold in 2 kilogram bags (4.4 pounds).
