I spent Saturday morning catching up on findagrave requests. My granddaughter took this shot of the side of the church that was next to the cemetery I was working in. It was freezing cold- so we split up, hoping to finish our search quickly. We both ended up speed walking through the graveyard...I'm sure passers-by thought we were nuts!
I love these stones-the details are so intricate.Oscar wasn't one of my requests, but I always try and get a photo of the older WOW stones from every cemetery I visit.
After we got back to the house I had a little chat with these two- just a friendly reminder that the houses will be raised in a week or so- it's almost time for the martins to arrive and perhaps they would like to move back to the barn, please. I'm quite sure they listened to every word I said.
Walk & Click Wednesdays

I do this too. OMGosh! We could have so much fun. I love visiting and honouring old cemeteries. I write poems about them even.
ReplyDeleteThey listened just like children right? Listen and forget it!
ReplyDeletethat's one of the most interesting cemetery stones i've ever seen!
ReplyDeleteThat is a very interesting stone. I always love perusing old graveyards.
ReplyDeleteI have not seen Martins here in a few years.
ReplyDeleteHi There, Since I am 'into' Genealogy ---and while doing some of my Family History, I have a yearning to check out a couple of cemeteries--one in Lee County, VA and one in Abingdon, VA... One of these days, I'll get there!!!!! "Find a Grave" is so helpful and so much fun...
ReplyDeleteGreat photos.
Hugs,
Betsy
That looks like a very old and very interesting cemetery! I like walking them for photos.
ReplyDeleteThat really is an intricately carved stone. Bet that was fun...except for the cold!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome project! I'm a genealogy nut, and love old cemeteries anyway. I love those WOW headstones. So ornate!
ReplyDeleteYou know I actually had someone call me on the phone one time and address me with "I hear you are the local genealogy freak". Yes, I wear my badges (nut and freak) proudly.
DeleteCemeteries are very interesting places. I seem to be particularly drawn to the young (wondering what their stories are) and military cemeteries (since my father served for 27 years). You captured a particularly interesting specimen here ... Oscar T. Pope's headstone. I'm interested that you do genealogy, but I don't see your name anywhere on your blogs. Hmmm ...
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting Walk and Click Wednesdays! Do come again. ;->
Well goodness, you are right! I've added my name in the copyright at the bottom- and my Linkedin profile has more info on the genealogy part of my world.
DeleteYou CANNOT be a grandmother, especially of one who is helping you search a cemetery for graves!!!! You look like you are 25 in your picture!!!!
ReplyDeleteI wish we had a purple martin house so we'd have them here to eat those mosquitos that are already starting to appear!!!
Awww, you have made my day! I have six grands- Becca is going to be 16 this summer and she started going to graveyards with me at the age of 5. She is the only one in the family who doesn't roll her eyes at me when I talk about the family tree.
Deletei always enlist my boys on my find a grave adventures. they usually find them quicker than i do! i'm sure those two listened ;)
ReplyDeleteTerri I am with Leave It To Davis about you being a Grandmother! Seriously that was the first thing that zipped thru my mind when I read the beginning of your post. I would love to have a tree for a headstone, not any time soon though.. :) A lovely idea. I love my Oaks.
ReplyDeleteI am thinking those Starlings are not going to want to leave your 5 Star Resort!
I love walking through the cemeteries (especially the old ones) and seeing the amazing work they did in stone. Love your martin houses!!!
ReplyDeleteThat stone is indeed quite detailed. Very interesting. I think those birds are listening to every word you say! ;)
ReplyDeleteHi Terri, that stone is amazing . . . the stone work is wonderful. I also love your bird houses . . . so cute.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the sweet visit and for casting your vote, this is going to be fun. I'll keep track and let you all know which Queen is truly worthy of the crown and honor.
Have a lovely day and thanks for stopping by.
It was quite a compliment that you liked two :)

A unique stone is hard to pass by without taking a photo! Love your martin house too.
ReplyDeleteA great stone. Perhaps a member of Woodsmen of the World?

ReplyDeleteTerri, Do you mind if I save that martin photo and show it to my husband? We want to build a thing like that and try to see if we can attract some in our field. Did you use a certain blueprint or just wing it? hehe - pun intended! ~Anne
ReplyDeleteSure! I think we ordered this one, but I don't remember from where. They really do seem to love the gourds.
